Every holiday, I arrange a basket of seasonal children’s books in the living room for my children to enjoy. These books about Thanksgiving are some of my favorites for welcoming the day of gratitude.

Pete the Cat: The First Thanksgiving by James Dean

This lift the flap book with groovy cat Pete makes learning about Thanksgiving fun!

Thanksgiving on Thursday (Magic Tree House #27) by Mary Pope Osborne

My five-year old has recently taken interest in listening to books in the Magic Tree House series. I’ve ordered this one for him as a Thanksgiving gift.

The Night Before Thanksgiving by Natasha Wing

You are probably familiar with this fun series that children love, and this book is no exception! This book has it all; the feast, the family, and the thanks!

A Turkey for Thanksgiving by Eve Bunting

This book is one of my favorite Thanksgiving stories! Mr. and Mrs. Moose invite all of their animal friends to join them for a Thanksgiving feast, but Turkey misunderstands and hides from them throughout the story.

I Know and Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie by Alison Jackson

My children think the Old Lady stories are hilarious. They love how everything she swallows, builds up to something. In this story, swallowing a pie leads to a Thanksgiving feast!

I love “Thanksgiving is for Giving Thanks” by Margaret Sutherland. It is a good model for beginning readers and writers to think of things they are thankful for, and also why they are thankful for them. Feel good story to read with your kids!
