Between ages 3 and 5, young children are ready to learn how to set the table. As your child masters this basic chore, he will feel responsible, capable, and proud. And you? Well, you will have one less thing to worry about at mealtime!

But, they may not yet be tall enough to reach into high cabinets. Help your child by placing plates, cups, flatware, and napkins on the counter top.

But, where does everything go? Even grownups have a hard time remembering! Help your child by hanging a guide on the refrigerator.

And they can clear it too! After your child has been excused from the meal, politely ask him to take his plate to the sink.

And they just might willingly do it every night if it means spending time with you. Turn dinner prep into a special time by asking your child about his day, singing songs, and taste-testing the meal!
